Essentials of Understanding Music and the Culture of the WorldMusic and the arts, specifically through music, can be quite eclectic and varied in their musical themes. Within each of these cultures there are subcategories. Each culture has its own history and cultural norms, thus any interpretation can only come from within a specific culture. In this article I will talk about musical topics and the cultures that surround it.One of the most general topics for music of the world is instrumental music. It would be worth looking at this topic to help you understand how you can get an understanding of how each individual culture of the world has responded to a particular genre of music. You might think of the violin, viola or cello as the great example of this genre. They are the most famous instruments for the western world. In the eastern world, the violin is used, but the violin will have more to do with choral music than instrumental music. It is interesting that so many people recogni ze the violin but will not recognize the instrument. This shows how it can influence other instruments and genres of music in the east approaches them as equals. With a bit of self-awareness, you can create your own instruments within the same tradition. The same goes for all genres of music, including jazz. If you were to think of one of the most popular styles of music in the world, you might easily think of modern pop or electronic music, but then again some people might even think of hip hop.Not to mention the cultural groups that will embrace, honor, and respect the hip hop artist, like Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, or Justin Timberlake. Each one of these artists has a history and connections in all of these areas, making for quitea unique personage within their own culture.Artists within a genre are simply artists, they will express themselves and push the limits of the music industry. There are always new areas of interest to explore with each generation of artists. Whether yo u are looking at new music, new ways to understand music and the cultures surrounding it, or exploring an entirely new genre of music.
